Just 12 years of dedicated work life can surprise you with a disease you never heard about. I'm dedicating a full multi step process based on advice from best surgeon in this field and my thorough research, join us after reading Step-1 so we can beat the nuisance together.
Quickly go for medical checkup and MRI – I guess you have already done that which brings you here. If you are in stage 1-2, much can be done to prevent this from worsening. There’s three ways you can go about it, my doctor said.
Do nothing
Go on medication for 3 years and then come to more aggressive options
Get straight to the point, schedule a PRP injection
STEP-1: Medical
My plan is to go for option three since I hate doing excessive medicines. Also, PRP injections have shown very promising results and, in some cases, showing that the damaged portion recovered over time based on , although it varies due to patient’s biology and precision of procedure.
What is PRP Injection? “Platelet-Rich Plasma” is a concentration of your own platelets, which are blood cells packed with growth factors and healing proteins. This involves below simple steps.
Drawing a small amount of the patient's blood
Spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from your blood
Injecting this concentrated solution directly into the damaged area of the knee. It’s done under ultrasound to ensure precise placement
In practice high concentration of growth factors will stimulate and enhance the body's natural healing processes, potentially reducing inflammation and promoting the repair of damaged cartilage
Each PRP injection lasts a year. You need one injection in both knees' yearly basis for up to 3 years, hope your insurance covers it.
Your doctor might give you all disclaimers that he will not guarantee 100% recovery of course but I’d much better use my own blood as medicine than to use medication for years before finally coming down to this aggressive option. STEP-2: Therapy
I have already gone through PRP in my left knee and am feeling much better than before after a two-week work from home, however, as my doctor said this issue is going to take at least about 1-2 years of dedication to get better, I'm now moving to next step. Actually, a complete recovery plan involves below plan.
PRP: 40%
Therapy: 30%
Diet: 15%
Lifestyle: 15%
This step is important as it would improve the health of my glutes, which is underlying issue of this disease. I could have easily gone for YouTube videos to straighten up my muscle imbalance, but its important to start with professional guidance. My plan is to really learn the movements in these therapy sessions and then employ these movements into my day-to-day life.
I have also requested my office to provide me a sitting place at the ground floor to avoid stairs. The idea is to avoid the strain on glutes and improve their health condition. I'm also considering to setup a more ergonomic setup for my sitting period of the job which I will definitely post here. Stay tuned for next step which is diet, lifestyle and ergonomics.
